Tietje Named HCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Defiance College women's basketball player and junior center Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) has been named this week's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference "Player of the Week."
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Defiance College women's basketball player and junior center Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) has been named this week's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference "Player of the Week."
The Yellow Jackets began the 2015-16 season on Saturday against No. 11 nationally-ranked Hope (Mich.) College and were one of three teams in the conference to begin its respective seasons this past week.
Tietje recorded her first double-double of the season with game-highs of 23 points and 16 rebounds. She shot 64.3 percent (nine-of-14) from the field and was four-of-six from the free-throw line. She also made one three-pointer. In addition, Tietje tallied one blocked shot and an assist.
Tietje entered the year with 888 career points and needed just 112 more points to reach 1,000 for her career in only her third season. With her 23 points against Hope, Tietje is now 89 points away (911) from becoming the 20th player in Yellow Jacket history to reach 1,000 points.
DC will travel to Wheaton, Ill. for the Beth Baker Classic hosted by Wheaton College on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 20-21. The Yellow Jackets will take on No. 6/11 nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m. DC will then play host school and No. 8 Wheaton on Saturday at 4 p.m.
