Kelsey Tietje Named HCAC Player of the Week
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Defiance College women's basketball player and sophomore forward Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) has been named this week's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Defiance College women's basketball player and sophomore forward Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) has been named this week's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Tietje helped the Yellow Jackets split a pair of games this past week and averaged 19.5 points per game and 16.0 rebounds per game. Tietje shot 42.9 percent from the field (15-of-35) and 81.8 percent (nine-of-11) from the free-throw line. In addition, she tallied three blocked shots and a pair of steals. She scored 25 points and added 18 rebounds in DC's 86-78 loss to Bluffton on Wednesday. Tietje ended the week with her fifth straight double-double, scoring 14 points with 14 rebounds in a 55-52 win over Franklin.
For the season, Tietje has averaged a double-double in all but three games. She is the team-leader in both scoring (17.9 ppg.) and rebounding (12.1 rpg.). She is also the league-leader in rebounding and second in scoring. Tietje is also second in the HCAC in blocked shots with 30. She is shooting 46.4 percent (90-of-194) from the field and 81.5 percent (88-of-108) from the free-throw line.
Tietje and the rest of the Yellow Jacket women's basketball team will travel to Richmond, Ind. for a HCAC game against Earlham (Ind.) College on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
