Yellow Jackets Collect Awards from HCAC
GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference has recognized three Yellow Jackets for their play during the 2011-2012 season. Erica King and Kim Comden were named All-HCAC while Brooke Zachrich was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

For King, it marks the second time she has been honored by the conference after being named HCAC Freshman-of-the-Year in her first season. The product of Pettisville High led the Yellow Jackets in scoring at 12.6 points per game. She finished sixth in the conference in scoring and led the league with 62 three-points. King played in 26 games with 14 starts and led DC by playing 29.4 minutes per contest. The sophomore was the high-scorer for Defiance in 12 games.
The All-HCAC award is the first for Comden, who set career-high numbers across the board. The junior center was second on the team and 13th in the conference with 10.6 points per game. During conference play, Comden's scoring increased to 11.8 points per game. The product of Ayersville High led the conference in overall free throw percentage (81.7%) and conference-only free throw percentage (86.2%). She ranked fourth in the HCAC in rebounds with 7.1 boards per contest, finished second in offensive rebounds (69) and third in blocks (39). She led DC in scoring six times and 12 times in rebounding.
Zachrich, a senior, was named to the All-Sportsmanship squad after completing her final season on the court for Defiance. The senior was a vital part of the DC lineup, and played in all 26 contests and starting 23 games. She was fourth on the team in scoring with 4.8 points and first on the squad with 66 assists.
Defiance ended the campaign with an overall record of 11-15 and a 9-9 mark in the conference. The Yellow Jackets earned the fifth seed in the HCAC Tournament, and will return 11 letterwinners to the squad in 2012-2013. Defiance will look to make a fourth straight trip to the conference tournament in the upcoming season.
