Roberts, Silcox recognized as All-HCAC Second Team in softball
CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2023 Softball Awards and All-Conference Teams on Tuesday with two Defiance Yellow Jackets receiving honors. Senior outfielder Marissa Roberts (Warren, Ohio/Labrae) and junior infielder Brooke Silcox (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) each received recognition as Second Team All-HCAC.
For Roberts, the selection is her third all-conference award with a First Team nod as a sophomore followed by a Second Team selection a year ago as a junior. She led the Yellow Jackets with 12 doubles, which ranked tied for sixth in the conference, on her way to tying the program's career doubles mark with 44.
Silcox picks up her second straight Second Team selection after leading Defiance in batting average (.395), on-base percentage (.444), hits (51) and runs (27) and struck out just 7 times in 145 plate appearances. Among HCAC leaders, Silcox ranked fifth in batting average, eighth in on-base percentage, fifth in hits and eighth with three triples.
