Softball drops doubleheader against Walsh

Josilyn Guzman led the Yellow Jackets on the day finishing 4 for 6 with three RBI, two runs, and two home runs.
In game one, the Cavaliers jumped to an earlier 4-0 lead by the top of the third inning. The Yellow Jackets strung together a few singles, and Sophie Moller drove in a run with a single to left field to get Defiance on the board, 4-1. The next at-bat, Guzman also drove in a run with a single to left field to cut the Walsh lead in half, 4-2.
The away side would register six more runs to defeat the Yellow Jackets 10-2 in six innings. Defiance posted six hits to Walsh's ten, and the Yellow Jackets were guilty of four errors throughout the game.
Taylor Biggs (6-10) started on the mound for the Purple and Gold and surrendered seven runs, three earned, on eight hits and two walks as she threw 4.0 innings. Jennifer Kaffenbarger came in for relief in the fifth inning and gave up three runs on two hits and three walks. Defiance brought in freshman Riley Alcorn to finish out the game, and she threw 1.0 inning and posted one strikeout.
In game two, the Yellow Jackets' two runs came by way of the long ball as Guzman blasted her first career home run over the left-center field fence in the bottom of the second inning to make it a one-run ball game as Walsh led, 2-1. The Cavaliers added two runs in the third inning, and it was like deja vu as Guzman registered in her second homer of the game to make the score 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Walsh would tack on an insurance run in the fifth inning to secure the 5-2 win over Defiance.
Savannah McCoy (3-5) threw a complete game allowing five runs, four earned on ten hits and two walks, while striking out eight.
Defiance moves to 10-17-1 overall on the season and is scheduled to return to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action tomorrow, April 23, as they travel to Mount St. Joseph University. The doubleheader is posted to begin at 4:30 pm in Cincinnati, Ohio.
