The offensive side of the dish has been problematic at times for the Jackets throughout the season as was the case in this doubleheader.
In game one, the Jackets were held scoreless in the top of the first, and the Comets jumped out to a 7-0 lead thanks to six hits and two Defiance errors in the bottom of the frame. Olivet was able to tack on an additional run in the bottom of the second to open up an 8-0 advantage.
Olivet's Rachel Cook kept the Jacket hitters off balance the entire game, as she allowed only two hits in the game. The Comets went on to win by a score of 8-0.
The Jackets received a solid pitching performance in the second game of the doubleheader, as freshman Lauren Dicke and senior Katelyn Samples combined to pitch six innings and allow only three hits. Unfortunately, the Comets managed to score three runs and the Jackets were unable to plate any on their five base knocks.
Olivet scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the second and used pitching and defense to hold off the Purple and Gold.
DC is next in action on Friday, April 6 as the team travels to Hanover for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference showdown. Game one of the doubleheader is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
