Purple and Gold’s Davis takes third at Otterbein Invitational
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – It was a wet and sloppy meet for the DC men’s cross country team on Saturday, September 21, but senior Joe Davis was still able to put together a solid run of 26:22.8 to finish in third place.
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – It was a wet and sloppy meet for the DC men's cross country team on Saturday, September 21, but senior Joe Davis was still able to put together a solid run of 26:22.8 to finish in third place.
On the day, the Ontario, Ohio native followed only Mount Union's Alex Wilson and unattached runner Michael Simmons out of the 210 competitors. This is Davis' third race finishing in the top-10 overall.
Crossing the finish line second for the DC men's harriers was fellow senior Madison Murphy in 48th place with a mark of 28:05.1. The Thomas Worthington High product was running in his first race on the year, after sustaining an injury in the preseason.
Rounding out the rest of the Defiance runners, freshman Clayton Bruggeman came in 89th at 28:49.7. Right behind was junior Andrew Senecal in 91st(28:52.1) and senior Adam Grillot in 93rd (28:52.6). Finally, freshman Colin Krick (29:03.6) and Jacob Merryfield (29:25.0) took 107th and 127th, respectively.
The Purple and Gold scored 256 points for the invite and came in 10th place as a team.
The Jackets will have next weekend off and return to action on Friday, October 4 for the annual All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville, Ohio. The statewide competition is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm.
