Track and Field opens outdoor season at the Victor Icebreakers
ROME. Ga. - The Defiance College track and field teams opened outdoor competition Saturday afternoon (March 2) at Berry College. The men's team accumulated three points and finished 19th out of 19 teams. The women accumulated eight points and finished 14th out of 17 teams.
Lisa-Maria Markau set a new personal best in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.03 seconds and placed second in the event. Myahn Smith ran the 100 meter dash for the first time and placed 21st with a time of 13.66 seconds. Shelby Clements also competed in the 100 for the first time and finished 31st with a time of 14.01 seconds. Clements also ran the 200 meter dash and placed 32nd with a time of 29.31 seconds.
Tawon Cannon earned an 11th place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.38 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, Cannon placed 17th with a time of 23.35 seconds. Montgomery Rollins competed in the javelin throw for the first time and placed 17th with a mark of 32.63 meters (107'1"). Gavin Maratea finished 21st in the javelin throw with a mark of 29.86 meters (97'11").
Jeremiah Benton set a personal best in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.71 seconds. The 4x100 relay team of Maratea, Rollins, Benton, and Cannon finished sixth with a time of 45.73 seconds.
Track and Field will stay in Georgia and next compete at the Clark Atlanta University Invitational next Saturday, March 9.
