Track and Field: Cannon’s event win highlights DC’s performance at HCAC Indoor Championships
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Senior Tawon Cannon winning the 400 meter dash highlighted DC's performance Saturday afternoon at the HCAC Indoor Championships. The event win for Cannon also earned him a spot on the All-HCAC First Team.
The Rose-Hulman men and women both took home first place finishes while the DC men placed eighth with 21 points and the DC women placed 10th with six points.
Defiance's three points came from Myahn Smith who placed sixth in the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 8.38 seconds which was also a personal best. Smith also earned a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.69 seconds. Shelby Clements ran both the 60 and 200 also, placing 13th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.67 seconds and a time of 30.05 seconds in the 200 for a 14th place finish.
Tawon Cannon won the 400 meter dash event with a time of 50.73 seconds. He won the event by 10 seconds. Cannon also earned a third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.48 seconds.
Montgomery Rollins placed 11th in the 200 meter dash and earned a top 10 finish in the 400 meter dash, placing seventh with a time of 52.41 seconds. Gavin Maratea placed 18th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.50 seconds. Jeremiah Benton set a personal best in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.97 seconds.
Track and Field heads to Georgia for their next two meets and will next compete at the Berry Victor Ice Breaker on Saturday, March 2.
