Records fall in DC's first meet of the indoor season
ANGOLA, Ind. – The DC Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams took to the track for the first time this winter season and the Yellow Jackets came away with a strong showing including several wins. The women also broke a couple school records in the event.

On the men's side, Jacob Rindler (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) got things started for the Yellow Jackets. The freshman won his first ever collegiate event. He put up a 2:03.45 in the 800-meter run.
In the next event, DC swept the podium for the gold, silver, and bronze. Joe Davis (Ontario, Ohio / Ontario) won the 1 mile run with a time of 4:35.82. Madison Murphy (Westerville, Ohio / Thomas Washington) and Troy Parrett (Cedarville, Ohio / Cedarville) followed up with times of 4:39.16 and 4:45.64, respectively. Andrew Senecal (North Baltimore, Ohio / North Baltimore) finished with a 4:53.71 to take fifth in the event.
In the 3,000-meter run, Josh Hilton (Antwerp, Ohio / Antwerp) was able to grab the third spot with a time of 9:36.05. The junior's was joined in the top five by teammate Clayton Bruggeman (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry), who crossed the line at 9:51.77 for fifth.
Rindler, Davis, Murphy, and Parrett also teamed up to finish second in the 4 X 400-meter relay. They were able to put together a time of 3:33.89.
Ryan Johnston (Defiance, Ohio / Ayersville) was able to get things going for the Yellow Jackets in the field events. He cleared a height of 3.50-meters to take fourth place.
In the long jump, Aaron Kersten (Linden, Mich. / Linden) jumped a distance of 5.76-meters for a third place finish.
Continuing the success of the field events, Luiyi Nunez (North Brunswick, N.J. / North Brunswick Township) finished fourth in the shot put. He threw a distance of 12.53-meters.
Nunez also grabbed a fifth place finish in the weight throw to end his day. Fellow thrower Anthony Nolfi (Akron, Ohio / Ravenna Southeast) was able to finish in second place in the same event with a 14.70-meter throw.
On the women's side of things, Micah Wilson (Mims, Fla. / Astronaut) got things started in a big way in the 60-meter dash. She finished second with a time of 8.12, the time was good enough to set a new Defiance College record.
Wilson also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.04. That race capped a great first collegiate meet for the freshman.
DC took fourth and fifth place in the 1 mile run. Marissa Bussard (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Bloom-Carroll) and Brittney Holmes (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance) finished with times of 6:10.31 and 6:11.28, respectively.
Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) was able to win her first indoor event of her collegiate career. Miller set a DC record with a 10:53.02 en route to her 3,000-meter win.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Margaret Sarfino was able to grab a third place finish with a time of 10.04.
The women's 4 x 400-meter relay team of Sarfino, Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center, Ohio / Liberty Center), Brooke Lime (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance), and Kali George (East Palestine, Ohio / East Palestine) got the win in the relay event. They put together a time of 4:21.72.
George also had a successful showing in the field portion of the meet for DC. She finished third in the high jump with a jump of 1.54 meters.
She also won the long jump with a jump of 5.15 meters. Weaks was able to jump her way into third with a distance of 4.96 meters. Sarfino rounded out a strong showing in the long jump with a jump of 4.66 meters which was good enough for fourth.
Angelyn Kutchinski (Baldwin, Mich. / Mason County Central) was able to take the bronze position in the pole vault. She was able to vault to a height of 2.60 meters.
Weaks continued the hot ways for the Yellow Jackets with a second place finish in the triple jump. Weaks completed a distance of 9.25 meters.
In shot put, DC was able to throw its way to a first place finish and a fifth place finish. Freshman Samantha Cook (Raiford, Fla. / Bradford County) was able to tie a DC record of 11.94 meters on way to getting the win. Ellexsie Haughton (Ocala, Fla. / Forest) threw a distance of 10.66 meters to get the fifth place finish.
Haughton also had a strong showing in the weight throw, coming in second place with a 12.80 meters. Teammate Nikki Young (Van Wert, Ohio / Van Wert) finished fifth with an 11.27-meter throw.
After a very successful meet from both the men and women, the Yellow Jackets are looking forward to their next meet in January. The meet will be held in Findlay, Ohio in the Northwest Ohio Invitational.
