Throwers lead DC at Taylor Invitational
UPLAND, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets throwers led DC in the Taylor University Invitational. Two throwers secured a top 10 finish along with the 4x200-meter relay team.
UPLAND, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets throwers led DC in the Taylor University Invitational. Two throwers secured a top 10 finish along with the 4x200-meter relay team.
In an invitational that featured 11 teams from the NAIA and NCAA, DC was able to be competitive in different events along with the top 10 finishes.
In the weight throw was where the Yellow Jackets saw their most success. In the finale of throws, Anthony Nolfi (Akron, Ohio / Ravenna Southeast) and Luiyi Nunez (North Brunswick, N.J. / North Brunswick Township) finished in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Nolfi threw for a distance of 15.87 meters in the finals, securing the top 5 finish. Nunez was close on Nolfi's heels, finishing in sixth place with a throw of 15.40 meters.
Both throwers were also able to secure the top throws by any HCAC school at the invitational. There were 15 other HCAC throwers that competed in the weight throw.
DC fans were also in for another treat during the weight throw. Yellow Jacket grad and NCAA Division III champ, Tom Postema competed in the event as well. He saw a familiar finish in the event, with a first place throw of 19.22 meters.
DC's 4x200-meter relay team of George Roth (Defiance, Ohio / Ayersville), John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. / Sault Area), Aaron Kersten (Linden, Mich. / Linden), and Ryan Johnston (Defiance, Ohio / Ayersville) was also able to secure a top 10 finish. The team finished with a time of 1:37.65, which was good enough for sixth place.
The Yellow Jackets will be in action again on Saturday, February 8 at the Ohio Northern Invitational. The start time is set for 11a.m.
