Yellow Jackets place fifth in HCAC
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The men’s track and field team took fifth place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship with 66.5 points.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The men's track and field team took fifth place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship with 66.5 points.
DC took home three individual championships and set quite a few records along the way.
The Yellow Jackets dominated in the hammer throw during day two. Four throwers put together 19 points for DC and all four of them set a new personal record.
Anthony Nolfi (Akron, Ohio / Ravenna Southeast) led the way for DC with a win. His winning throw of 50.58 meters came on his sixth and final throw of the day, catapulting him from second to first place. Fellow senior Luiyi Nunez (North Brunswick, N.J. / North Brunswick Township) took third place with a throw of 47.54 meters. Jacob Rodriguez (Ligonier, Ind. / West Noble) and Jake Arnold (Stow, Ohio / Woodridge) took seventh and eighth place, respectively, with throws of 44.47 meters and 44.07 meters.
Arnold wasn't done yet for DC. He also took eighth in the discus throw. Arnold threw for a distance 38.71 meters to place in the eight spot.
Troy Parrett (Cedarville, Ohio / Cedarville) has been in the HCAC for three seasons and has won the 800-meter run all three seasons. Parrett took the three peat of the event in a big way. He set the new HCAC Championship Meet record with his time of 1:55.34. Jacob Rindler (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) took eighth place in the event with a time of 4:11.04.
Parrett also took eighth place in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:11.04. His teammate Joe Davis (Ontario, Ohio / Ontario) took the victory in the event with a 4:05.40, just edging out the runner-up by a step.
Parrett and Davis also teamed up with Ryan Johnston (Defiance, Ohio / Ayersville) and Cody Wilson (McComb, Ohio / McComb) in the 4x400-meter relay to take fourth place. The four teammates put together a time of 3:25.92 in the event.
Johnston was also on the 4x100-meter relay with John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich / Sault Area), Aaron Kersten (Linden, Mich. / Linden), and George Roth (Defiance, Ohio / Ayersville). The team put together a time of 45.87 to take sixth place.
Distance runner Josh Hilton (Antwerp, Ohio / Antwerp) took home points for the Yellow Jackets in the 5,000-meter run. With a time of 15:55.09 he finished in the eight spot.
DC will take next weekend off before picking things back up the following weekend. On May 9 and 10, the Yellow Jackets will be in Naperville, Ill. to compete in the Dr. Keeler Invitational.
