DC Men’s Track and Field Grabs Second at Dick Small Invite
DEFIANCE, Ohio – In the 18th Annual Dick Small Invitational, the Defiance College men’s track and field team notched a solid outing of eight first-place finishes on Friday, March 29. Senior Tom Postema paved the way with three individual top finishes on the afternoon.

In the track portion of the meet, the Purple and Gold scored well in multiple events. Sophomore Ryan Johnston was the lone individual sprinter to take home first, as he recorded a time of 51.50 in the 400-meter dash. He then joined a trio of freshman in Vinnie Perez, George Roth and Kevin Wynn for the 4x100 relay. The group crossed the finish line in a second-place time of 45.08.
Middle distance events were also ran well by DC. Junior Adam Grillot was accompanied by freshman Nick Naylor, Jacob Whisler and Joe Hilton in the 4x800-meter relay, where the quartet finished on top with a mark of 8:31.54. Grillot also added a second-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:02.95.
In the 1,500-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase, three familiar names for Defiance accounted for high placing's. Sophomore Troy Parrett rung up a time of 4:11.41 for second in the 1,500, while senior Hayden Krick and junior Joe Davis went one and two in the steeplechase with times of 9:50.02 and 10:14.47, respectively.
On to the field event portion of the Dick Small Invitational, the Yellow Jackets had an outstanding performance. Postema crushed the competition by taking first in all three events he partook in. The Tinora High product hurled distances of 52.91 meters (discus), 58.02m (hammer throw) and 15.89m (shot put) that paced the invitational.
Two other DC field members were also successful in the hammer throw. Juniors Anthony Nolfi and Luiyi Nunez followed Postema by going two and three in the event. Nolfi registered a distance of 44.76m, which was just over one meter longer than Nunez who finished at 43.57m.
Hardin-Wallace landed the top finish in the pole vault and recorded a second-place finish in the javelin with marks of 4.43 meters and of 42.35m, respectively.
The Adrian Bulldogs were the only competitors at the meet to top the Purple and Gold, as they ended the meet with a first-place score of 206 points. The host Defiance came in right behind them at 174 and the Olivet Comets rounded out the Top-3 with 120 points.
In the DC's next meet, it will travel up to Michigan for the Adrian Invitational on Saturday, April 6. Action will begin early at 10 a.m.
