DEFIANCE, Ohio – DC's junior standout thrower earned the highest honor in all of his accolades this season, as Tom Postema received All-America status. The junior was named All-America in the discus throw.
Postema was named All-America because of his performance in the discus event at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships on May 24 in Los Angeles, Calif. The Tinora product unleashed a throw of 52.98 feet, which placed Postema fourth in the event.
Postema's All-America status is the first earned by a DC track and field athlete since Brad Zarembski in 2010 and the fifth in the program's history. Other notable awards that Postema has received this season are Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year, First Team All-HCAC for indoor and outdoor seasons and DC Male Athlete of the Year.
To go along with the honors Postema received, the junior rewrote multiple record books in his first season as a Yellow Jacket. The Defiance native broke the DC record in outdoor discus, indoor shot put and indoor weight throw events. Postema also set multiple HCAC Championship records in the indoor shot put, indoor weight throw and outdoor discus.
Postema competed at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor National Championships this season. The junior threw the shot put and weight at the indoor championships and threw discus, shot put and hammer at the outdoor championships.
