DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College men’s tennis team hosted Concordia (Mich.) University in non-conference play and defeated the Cardinals by a match score of 9-0.
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College men's tennis team hosted Concordia (Mich.) University in non-conference play and defeated the Cardinals by a match score of 9-0.
DC (6-5) started the match taking an early 3-0 lead over the Cardinals (0-5) after sweeping doubles play. The first doubles team of James Demeo (Oregon/Clay) and Adam Swisher (Bedford, MIch. /Bedford) and the second doubles team of Tory Savage (Bryan) and Eline Widman (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) defeated their opponents 8-0. Brian Kurtz (Sandusky/Perkins) and Nathan Height (Wabash, Ind. /Wabash) won at third doubles by a match score of 8-1.
In singles play, Demeo and Swisher both left their opponents with love by defeating their opponents 6-0, 6-0 at the first and second singles spot, respectively. Savage stood strong at the third slot and won by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Widman won at the fourth spot, 6-1, 6-0 while Kurtz won 6-1, 6-0 at the fifth singles spot. Rounding out the wins was Height at the sixth spot who won 6-1, 6-0.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 6 when they travel to North Manchester, Ind. to face Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Manchester (Ind.) University. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
