Yellow Jackets Win First Fall Matchup
MIDDLETOWN, OHIO – The Defiance College men’s tennis team traveled to Middletown, Ohio to face non-conference opponent Miami (Ohio) University – Middletown in a fall matchup and swept the Thunderhawks by a match score of 9-0.
MIDDLETOWN, OHIO – The Defiance College men's tennis team traveled to Middletown, Ohio to face non-conference opponent Miami (Ohio) University – Middletown in a fall matchup and swept the Thunderhawks by a match score of 9-0.
Due to insufficient numbers, the Thunderhawks (3-3) had to forfeit the third doubles and sixth singles spot, already giving an advantage to Defiance (1-0). The Yellow Jackets swept doubles play and never gave up momentum. Junior James Demeo (Oregon/Clay) and sophomore Adam Swisher (Bedford, Mich. /Bedford) played first doubles and won by a match score of 8-2. The second doubles team of Junior Tory Savage (Bryan) and sophomore Eline Widman (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) beat their opponent 8-4.
In singles play, Demeo played first singles and glided past his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Swisher was at the number two slot and won 6-0, 6-4. Savage played third singles and defeated his Thunderhawk opponent 7-5, 6-4. Widman played fourth singles and won 6-4, 6-3. Junior Nathan Height (Wabash, Ind. /Wabash) rounded out singles play for the Yellow Jackets and won a tough battle 6-1, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8).
