Defiance sweeps Manchester for HCAC win

The evening started off with doubles where Defiance picked up its first three victories of the night. James Demeo and Tory Savage played a close set and edged out opponents Matt Buncich and Trent Baker to pull off an 8-6 win.
Mike Ross and Ryan Nelson also had a tight battle in doubles, needing an extra game to secure a 9-7 victory for the point.
The match continued, with DC leading 3-0, to singles where the Yellow Jackets continued to build their lead over Manchester.
Ross started his singles match out strong, winning the first set 6-4. He fell to Manchester's Stratton Smith in the second set 0-6, but Ross came back with a vengeance winning the third-set tie breaker game 10-6.
Cord Speelman defeated Phil Truitt in singles play 6-1, 6-0 for his second win of the match. Justin Walker and Speelman teamed up for a comfortable 8-2 victory earlier on in the night in the third and final doubles match.
Ryan Nelson also picked up his second win when he defeated Miro Arguijo III in singles play 6-1, 6-2.
Demeo picked up his third win in singles play in HCAC competition, remaining undefeated with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Alex Winger.
Savage moved to 2-0 in HCAC singles play matches with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Trevor Jones of Manchester.
Walker closed off the night for the Yellow Jackets, earning the sweep and also remaining undefeated in HCAC play. Walker defeated Buninch 6-3, 6-0 in final singles match to finish off the night.
Defiance will return to action next Wednesday with a match at Anderson University. The Yellow Jackets will take on the Ravens at 4:00 p.m. in Anderson, Ind.
