Scots shut out Jackets in Friday afternoon affair
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Alma College Scots had the DC men’s tennis team’s number on Friday, March 21, as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe was the first squad this season to shut out the Purple and Gold with a 9-0 victory.

To get play started, the first doubles duo of Mike Ross (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) and Ryan Nelson (Oregon, Ohio / Clay) had the best outing of any match for Defiance. The pair of upperclassmen put up a solid fight but fell 9-7.
The second and third pairs then fell to the Alma 8-0 and 8-2, respectively.
For singles competition, Nelson put together the strongest performance with a 6-4, 7-5 defeat in third singles.
In the five other singles matches Cord Speelman (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) was the only Yellow Jacket to take more than three games in a single set, as the Scots were on top of their game on their home courts.
DC will look to snap its three-game skid on Tuesday, March 25 when it travels to Richmond, Ind. for a matchup with Indiana University East. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
