DEFIANCE, Ohio – The DC men's tennis team fell to a tough Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponent on Thursday, March 20 when the Adrian Bulldogs came away with a 7-2 road victory over the Jackets.
To get the match started, Defiance (5-4) had solid effort from its first and second doubles tandems. However, Mike Ross (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) and Ryan Nelson (Oregon, Ohio / Clay) came up short by a score of 8-4 and then Cord Speelman (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) and Justin Walker (Wilson, N.C. / Hunt) fell by the same outcome in second doubles.
The freshman duo of James Demeo (Oregon, Ohio / Clay) and Tory Savage (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) then continued their successful season in third doubles with their seventh victory of the season. The pair came up victorious in third doubles by a score of 8-5.
In singles action Demeo was the only member of the DC squad to come out with a win, as he downed his fourth singles opponent 6-3, 6-3. It has been a fantastic first-year campaign for Demeo, as he upped his season record to 8-1 with the victory.
The other Yellow Jackets all dropped in straight sets, but did not go down easy. Ross fought hard in his second set that ended 7-5 and both Nelson and Savage each managed a 6-4 set.
Defiance will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon, as it travels up to Michigan for a meeting with the Alma Scots. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
