Yellow Jacket Tennis Outmatched by Fightin’ Engineers

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College hosted Rose-Hulman in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Sunday morning at the Dix Tennis Facility. The Engineers were too much for the Yellow Jackets, as Rose-Hulman shut out the Purple and Gold in a 9-0 win.
The match began with DC losing all three matches in doubles action. The number one doubles tandem of Cord Speelman and Ryan Nelson fell by a final of 8-4, while the two and three teams each lost 8-3.
Singles results followed the same script as to doubles play. Rose-Hulman won all six positions and only dropped one set through the six matches.
DC sophomore Tyler Thiel was the most successful at the six position for the Jackets on Sunday, as Thiel dropped the first set 6-2 and rallied to blank his opponent 6-0 in the second before narrowly dropping the super tiebreaker by a score of 13-11.
The Purple and Gold drop to 5-8 on the season with the defeat and move to 1-3 in HCAC play. Defiance travels to Manchester for its next match as the Jackets square off against the Spartans in a conference match.
