RICHMOND, Ind. – The Defiance College men's tennis team came into its match against Earlham, the top team in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, with a three-match winning streak on the line. Unfortunately for the Purple and Gold, the streak ended on Wednesday, as the Quakers blanked Defiance by a score of 9-0.
Earlham got off to a good start in the doubles' competitions, as the Quakers claimed a victory at all three positions to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles' play. No Yellow Jacket team was able to win more than two games in doubles' action.
Defiance did not fare any better in the six singles' matches, as Earlham won all six spots in straight-set fashion. Sophomore Ryan Nelson claimed the most games for DC in any match, winning a total of four games.
With the defeat, the Jackets' record falls to 4-7 in the spring and 1-2 in the Heartland. The Purple and Gold returns home to host the Pilots of Bethel College on Friday, April 5 in a non-conference showdown. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Dix Tennis Facility.
