Yellow Jacket Men’s Tennis Wins Third Straight on Tuesday
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s tennis team won its third-consecutive match on Tuesday afternoon in a 7-0 victory over Central State.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's tennis team won its third-consecutive match on Tuesday afternoon in a 7-0 victory over Central State. The three-match win streak is the longest for the team since the 2009 season.
The Jackets began the match by winning both doubles matches, as Ryan Nelson and Cord Speelman teamed up at the one position to win by a final of 8-2. At the two doubles spot Craig Bills and Justin Walker cruised to an 8-1 victory. This is the second-straight match the Jackets have swept doubles play.
In singles action Defiance easily disposed of the Marauders at all five positions. No member of the DC squad dropped more than two games in a match at any of the five singles' positions. Cord Speelman, Justin Walker and Michael Vanderkolk each blanked their opponents with scores of 6-0, 6-0.
The Purple and Gold is now 5-0 against Central State in the last three seasons. The win moves the Yellow Jackets' overall record to 4-6. Defiance is back in action on Wednesday, April 3 in a matchup against the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's top team in Earlham College. The match is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
