Yellow Jackets Split Matches on Final Day of Spring Tennis Fest
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Defiance College men’s tennis team won a match and lost a match on Thursday. The Jackets dropped their morning match against Illinois Springfield in the morning session, but bounced back to blank Johnson State by a score of 9-0 in the evening match.

Defiance won every single match for the second time in as many days against Johnson State. The Jackets cruised in doubles play at the number one and three positions, winning both matches 8-1. At the two doubles position Craig Bills and Cord Speelman pulled out a close match by a score of 9-7.
The Purple and Gold continued its dominance in single play. Junior Craig Bills did not drop a game in his 6-0, 6-0 victory at five singles. Trevor Ault, Cord Speelman and Ryan Nelson each dropped only two games or fewer during their matches. Other winners were Austin Gray and Justin Walker.
In the morning match the Yellow Jackets were overpowered by a strong Illinois Springfield squad. DC was unable to win a match in singles or doubles play. The closest match in the contest was at five singles where Bills was defeated in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
Defiance finished the Spring Tennis Fest going 2-4 and moves its overall record to 2-6. The Jackets next match is at Defiance on Tuesday, March 20 against Adrian at 4:00 p.m.
