GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2011 Men's All-HCAC Team on Tuesday, with Defiance College's Trevor Ault and Mark Vandevender among the award winners.
Ault was named All-HCAC for the third-straight year, after holding down the No. 1 spot in the lineup for the Yellow Jackets in both singles and doubles play. The Oregon, Ohio native led the Jackets with 16 total victories, after picking up eight wins at No. 1 singles and adding eight more at the top doubles slot during his junior campaign. Ault will enter his final collegiate campaign with a 76-48 overall record during spring competition. That mark is bolstered by a 30-13 clip in HCAC action.
Vandevender repeated his honor as Defiance's representative on the HCAC All-Sportsmanship Team. The senior from Westlake, Ohio spent time primarily at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Yellow Jackets during the 2011 campaign, playing in 22 singles matches and picking up four doubles victories.
The Jackets are set to return seven of their eight letterwinners from this year's squad, with Vandevender being the lone departure due to graduation.
Along with featuring a much more experienced roster in 2011-2012, the DC tennis program will benefit from significant upgrades to its facilities. Along with four indoor courts planned to open this fall inside the Defiance College Athletics Center, the Dix Tennis Facility will have its six outdoor courts completely resurfaced prior to the start of the fall campaign.
