Bio

Josh Lubich has served as the head men's soccer coach since 2022 and has been on the Yellow Jackets' coaching staff since 2021.

Coach Lubich's Yellow Jackets finished 2-12-5 in 2022 before sporting year two improvements to reach the 2023 HCAC Tournament. Despite starting 0-3, the 2023 club lost consecutive matches just one other time with exciting conference wins over Hanover, Bluffton and Mount St. Joseph. In the opening round of the conference tournament, the Yellow Jackets played Transylvania to a scoreless tie before the Pioneers claimed the victory in a shootout. During his first two seasons, Coach Lubich has mentored four All-Conference players including the program's first First Team performer in 10 years.

Lubich was a part of the coaching staff in 2021 that helped guide the men's soccer team to a program record 23-game season, 11-win season that ranks second-most in team history, beating top-ranked Rose-Hulman in the HCAC Men's Soccer Tournament in the opening round, and reaching the HCAC Men's Soccer Tournament Championship.

Lubich has a wealth of knowledge and experience prior to Defiance as well. He served as an assistant coach for the Howland High School boys soccer team in 2019. Then in 2020, Lubich helped guide Howland to a Division II state championship after finishing as state runner-ups in 2019. He has also coached with FC Evolution since 2018 serving as the head coach for multiple age groups. Lubich also spent a year as a graduate assistant for the Elmira College women's soccer team and holds a National "F" Coaching License.

Lubich graduated from Hiram College in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Management after a four-year career with the Terriers. In his collegiate career, Lubich appeared in 66 games, making 25 starts and scoring a pair of goals. Lubich served as team captain his senior year at Hiram.
