Richmond, Ind. - The Defiance College men's soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Earlham College Wednesday afternoon after surrendering a late goal.
The Yellow Jackets claim another point on the road and move to 1-0-2 in conference play and 4-4-4 overall. Earlham is now 2-6-3 overall and 0-2-1 in conference competition.
The first half was quite uneventful. Despite two first half shot attempts in the first ten minutes from Riley Hensley, Defiance was outshot 6-2 in the period. The only yellow card of the game was given to Earlham's Rahul Jain in the first half and the Quakers claimed the only corner kick attempt in the half as well.
Quinn Holtzapple and the Yellow Jackets found paydirt first. A ball was sent into the box, got knocked around, and caromed to Holtzapple who put the ball into the back of the net for his second goal this season.
The Quakers were able to net the equalizer with just over three minutes remaining on their final shot attempt of the game. Braden Guinn tied it on a free kick and the shot somehow found its way to the goal and Orry Killam was unable to save it.
Riley Hensley led the team in shots with three and two were on goal. Killam saved three of four shots and Earlham keeper Tyler Smith saved four of five.
The Yellow Jackets hit the road Saturday for a big conference game at Rose-Hulman. The game will be a doubleheader with the women, with the men's kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
