Defiance senior Chase Stiner (St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of Week as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Stiner played a pivotal role in Defiance's two contests last week. First, on Wednesday's Senior Day match against Earlham, Stiner score a goal early in the game and later recorded the assist on the game-winning goal. Stiner's contributions held the Yellow Jackets to earn a 3-2 win and kept them in the playoff picture. The Yellow Jackets' playoff berth was confirmed later that evening after the rest of the conference games concluded.
On Saturday, in Defiance's first playoff appearance since 2006, Stiner recorded two assists and a goal in the first 27 plus minutes of play to give the Yellow Jackets a big early lead. The fifth-seeded Yellow Jackets held on to defeat the fourth seed Franklin, 4-2.
Stiner is the third Yellow Jacket to earn HCAC Athlete of the Week honors this season. Junior Noah Svanberg was named the Offensive Athlete of the Week on Sept. 13 and Oct. 4 and junior Orry Killam was named Defensive Athlete of the Week on Sept. 13.
Stiner and the Yellow Jackets will face top seed Rose-Hulman on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
