Maurer, Svanberg power men's soccer past Transy
Two goals from junior Joshua Maurer and a goal and two assists from junior Noah Svanberg helped lead the Defiance men's soccer team to a 3-2 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Transylvania on Saturday afternoon at home.

- The Pioneers retook the lead in the 60th minute when Jak Birdsong converted a penalty kick
- Svanberg tied the game for the Yellow Jackets with an athletic play directing a free-kick from Kruyer into the back of the net.
- The combination of Svanberg and Maurer hooked up again to give the Yellow Jackets the lead in the 82nd minute after Svanberg connected with Maurer on a long pass and the latter was able to beat the Pioneer keeper.

- The win is the first home win for Defiance this season.

- Svanberg's big game gives him nine career assists, which ties him with Alex Toll (2003-06) for sixth-most in program history, and 29 career points, putting him in eighth-place in DC record book.
