DEFIANCE, Ohio – A second half header by Christian Meister forced the Defiance College men's soccer team into overtime and an eventual 1-1 2OT draw against Trine (Ind.) University this afternoon at the Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
The first half saw only four shots by the Yellow Jackets (2-0-1), giving them limited options to score.
In the second half, DC continued to be stifled by the Thunder defense, recording only two shots compared to the Thunder's nine. Trine's Ben Moricz was the first to strike, scoring in the 64th minute, giving TU the 1-0 advantage.
A perfect throw in from Quin McBreen at the 67th minute-mark allowed DC to capitalize on their low shot number as Meister perfectly placed a header to the back of the net, tying the score at one apiece.
In both overtimes, Defiance failed to put a ball in frame but their defense kept the Thunder from expanding their lead, ending the game 1-1.
Meister's goal was his second on the season, the first coming on Sunday, September 3 in a 2-0 win over Bethany College. Liam Hall and Jarren Casto paced Defiance with two shots apiece while Clay Musgrave recorded nine saves while in net.
The Yellow Jackets are back on the field this Friday as they travel to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to take on Westminster College. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.
