Defiance Drops Battle Against Earlham (Ind.)

DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College men's soccer team fell, 1-0, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game and home finale at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field on senior day.
Defiance (6-10-1, 2-5-1 HCAC) outshot Earlham (8-6-1, 3-4-1 HCAC), 8-7, in the game, but were unable to put any shots on goal. The Quakers scored the first and only goal of the day at the 9:14 minute mark on the first shot of the game on the offensive side for either team. DC recorded its first offfensive opportunity early in the 34th minute when senior Blayne Robbins (Galva, Ill./Miamisburg) took a header that missed wide. The Yellow Jackets tallied several more shots in the period, including one by freshman Henok Jones (Georgetown, Ind./Floyd Central) that missed just high on a header attempt in the last 30 seconds of play. Despite the early goal by Earlham, the DC defense held the Quakers at bay offensively the remainder of the half and only trailed 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, the Jacket defense was able to hold the Quakers from producing any more goals. DC took three shots in the final 45 minutes, including shots by senior Jordan Drake (Maumee/Springfield) and Jones, both missing wide in their attempts at tying the game up. Junior Trevor Hester (Liberty Center/Monclova Christian Academy) took the final shot attempt for the Jackets which ended up being blocked by the Earlham defense as the Quakers held on for the 1-0 victory.
Junior Damien Koester (Englewood/Brookville) played all 90 minutes in net for DC. He allowed just the lone goal and recorded one save.
The Yellow Jackets will be traveling to Hanover, Ind. on Saturday (Oct. 31) to take on HCAC opponent Hanover (Ind.) College in their final game of the 2015 season. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
