Defiance Defeated By Anderson (Ind.)
ANDERSON, IND.- The Defiance men's soccer team fell short against Anderson (Ind.) Unviersity in today's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game in Anderson, Ind. The final score was 1-0.
ANDERSON, IND.- The Defiance men's soccer team fell short against Anderson (Ind.) Unviersity in today's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game in Anderson, Ind. The final score was 1-0.
Anderson (3-7-3, 2-1-1 HCAC) were held scoreless throughout the first half of play by the Defiance (4-9, 0-4 HCAC) defense. Junior Trevor Hester (Liberty Center/Monclova Christian Academy) took a hard shot 8:43 into the game, but his shot was blocked by a Raven defender. Senior Jordan Drake (Maumee/Springfield) took an attempt that missed wide right approximately 21 minutes into play. The third shot produced by the Jacket offense was by freshman Henok Jones (Georgetown, Ind./Floyd Central), but missed wide left. Anderson managed six shots of their own in the opening period, but neither team could find the back of the net, as the game remained deadlocked at 0-0 at the intermission.
In the second half, the Ravens finally broke the stalemate at the 72:41 minute mark with a goal that turned out to be the only goal of the evening. The Jacket offense was able to produce eight shots throughout the last 45 minutes of play, but were unable to net any goals. Jones added four more shots in the second half, totalling five shots on the night, with one on goal. Sophomore Mark Williams (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) took a pair of shots in addition to Hester and Drake who both had their second shots of the evening land in the hands of the Anderson goalkeeper to remain scoreless and allowing the Ravens to hang on for the 1-0 victory.
Freshman Clay Musgrave (Upper Sandusky) started and played the entire game in net against the Ravens. Musgrave had one goal against and tallied four saves.
Defiance will host Transylvania (Ky.) University on Saturday (Oct. 17) at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field as part of a HCAC doubleheader with the Yellow Jacket women's team. The women will also be taking on the Pioneers with their game set for 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3:30 p.m.
