Yellow Jackets lose 2-1 to Earlham

XENIA, Ohio – The Defiance College men's soccer team fell in a double overtime heartbreaker Wednesday night, losing to Earlham, 2-1, by way of a penalty kick with just two and a half minutes left in the second overtime.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-6-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

DC's Ian Fasnacht (Strongsville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) found goal by way of a header in the first half.  Luke Freels (Ludlow Falls, Ohio/Milton Union) threw it in from the sideline and found Drew Metz (Northwood, Ohio/Lake) in the box who headed it over to Fasnacht for his first goal on the year.

The Yellow Jackets held onto the 1-0lead and took it into the halftime break.

Defiance's defense and Sean Roberts (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester) continued to turn away shots until the 76th minute when the Quaker's Kabeya curved one in from 25 yards out to even the score at one.

Defiance was not able to find another shot in the half but was able to turn away Earlham's three other chances to end regulation in a 1-1 tie.

In the overtime periods, the Yellow Jackets were not able to find another shot while Roberts and the defense fought to hang on.

With just two and a half minutes left in the second overtime, Earlham got into the box and drew a foul.  Jacob Ebbs took the resulting penalty kick and found the back of the net for the win.

DC was outshot by Earlham 18-6 overall and nine to two in shots on goal.

The Yellow Jackets will now travel to Rose-Hulman to play on Saturday in the third game of the HCAC schedule. Kickoff is after the women's game at 2:30 pm.
