DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets can't quite pull the upset on ninth ranked Ohio Northern. Losing by a score of 1-0, DC now falls to 4-5.
Defiance did not play intimidated against the highly ranked Polar Bears, playing with them every minute of the way. DC held ONU to just 17 shots and only seven of them going toward goal. Sean Roberts was able to turn away six different shots Ohio Northern took and made a few nice saves along the way.
The Polar Bears tried to slow the pace down from the beginning, allowing DC to get just 11 shots of their own. Freshman Dylan Dorley made a few flashy moves to get himself open for two good looks. ONU's freshman goalkeeper Evan Bader was able to make two great saves to keep the clean slate against Dorley's attacks.
The lone goal came in the second half, just five minutes after halftime, when a couple of passes from Stephen Perkins and Chase Mueller got Keegan Ross open for just enough time to tap one across the line for the score.
Defiance held their ground the rest of the way not letting ONU pull away. A few key saves from Roberts and good play from the defense kept the Yellow Jackets in the game until the final whistle.
Defiance plays again Saturday at home against Baldwin-Wallace. Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm.
