PONTIAC, Mich. – The Yellow Jacket men's soccer team got on the scoreboard, but could not hold off the Rochester Warrior attack, as the squad fell again in its final non-conference match of the year.
Rochester got off to a quick start when on its second shot of the game; Chad Helberg snuck one by senior goalie Sean Mukhtar in only the fifth minute of the first period to take a 1-0 lead.
The Jackets rebounded quickly though, as they got their attack going and notched four shots at the net over the next ten minutes. Then in the 26th minute, sophomore forward Kevin Arriola beat the Warrior goalie for his second goal of the season and knotted the game at one a piece.
Both offenses were in top form on the day, as each team racked off eight shots in the first half. However, the DC defense held up, as the teams went into intermission still tied at one.
In the second period, much of the same continued with the teams combining to shoot 22 shots at the net. Unfortunately for Defiance, Rochester recorded 13 of those shots and after 30 minutes of even play in the second half, it broke the Jacket defense and scored a goal off the post to take a 2-1 advantage.
Defiance was unable to rebuttal with a score of its own and in the 86th minute, the Warriors placed another in the back of the net to put the game away, as they came away with the 3-1 home win.
DC falls to 0-10-0 on the season, as it still searches for its first win. Rochester moved up to 4-7-0 with the victory.
The Yellow Jackets have a four-day break before they return to action Saturday, September 29 when they travel down to Cincinnati to take on Mt. St. Joseph in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener. The match is set for 2:30 p.m.
