HANOVER, Ind. – The men's soccer team stayed unbeaten against conference competition with a 3-1 win over Hanover College (2-7, 0-2 HCAC) on Saturday. Defiance scored three unanswered goals against the Panthers, after being hit with an early 1-0 deficit on a Hanover penalty-kick.
The game marked the second-consecutive contest in which the Jackets have been forced to battle back after surrendering an early penalty-kick to their opponents.
DC's Evan Allen evened the score at 1-1 in the 19th minute with a bicycle kick that found the right side of the net, giving the freshman midfielder his third goal of the season. The score remained locked at 1-1 through halftime and much of the second period, until Defiance took the 2-1 lead on an own goal in the 77th minute.
Kyle Johnson put the game out of reach five minutes later, when he corralled a corner kick from Mike Kern, and sent it past the keeper for the 3-1 lead with less than eight minutes remaining. Johnson's goal was his second of the season, while Kern was credited with his second assist of the year on the feed.
The Yellow Jackets will play in their final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday, October 6, when they travel to Detroit, Mich., for a match with Marygrove College (4-6).
