St. Francis jumped on the scoreboard first, as Robby Holland gave the Cougars a one-goal lead in the seventh minute of the match. However, DC wasted no time providing an answer, as less than a minute later Greg Vogt set up Chris Kessler for the Jackets' first goal of the season to tie the match.
The two teams remained scoreless for the next 89 minutes, before Crawford's header would end the match in the 97th minute. Defiance keeper Mitch Livensparger fell to 0-3 on the season, despite tallying nine saves and keeping 29 of the Cougar's shots out of the net.
The Jackets finished with seven shots in the match, five of which were on goal. Vogt and Tony Cornell led DC with two shots each, while Kessler scored his second career goal on his only shot of the match. Josh Brumfield and Bryce Hodges also had shots on goal for Defiance.
The Jackets return to the pitch on Sunday, September 14, when they travel to Adrian College for a 2 p.m. match.
