Men's Soccer Places Three on Watch List
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Three members of the Defiance College Men’s Soccer team earned mention on the HCAC Preseason Player-to-Watch list. The Jackets were selected to finish sixth in the Preseason Poll, after receiving 32 points.
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Three members of the Defiance College Men's Soccer team earned mention on the HCAC Preseason Player-to-Watch list. The Jackets were selected to finish sixth in the Preseason Poll, after receiving 32 points.
Defending HCAC champion Transylvania, whose women were named the conference favorites on Tuesday, made it a clean sweep of the HCAC Preseason soccer polls. The Pioneers received eight first-place votes on its way to 79 points. Rose-Hulman received 67 points to finish second, while Manchester finished a close third with 64 points.
Senior defender Chris Cannon, junior midfielder Greg Vogt and sophomore forward Tony Cornell were each named to the HCAC Preseason Player-to-Watch list. Cannon and Vogt each bring veteran leadership to a young Jacket squad, combining for 54 starts over the past two seasons. Cornell returns after leading the team in goals (6) in 2007, while also earning HCAC Player-of-the-Week honors.
DC appears poised to approve upon its seventh-place finish in the HCAC a year ago, as Head Coach Alden Lawrence returns 15 letterwinners to combine with the addition of nine freshmen.
DC will kick off the season against Kalamazoo in the opening game of the Defiance Classic on August 29 at 3:00 pm.
