Men’s golf shows improvement at Polar Bear Easter Classic
HARROD, Ohio – Defiance College's men's golf team compiled their best team score of the 2022-23 campaign at Colonial Golfers Club on Friday and Saturday against a number of local programs in the Polar Bear Easter Classic.
The Yellow Jackets posted a season-low 430, the lowest 18-hole round as a team for the men's team this year, and their 871 36-hole total was their best two-round tournament score as well.
Seth Pearson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) led the way on both days with rounds of 99 and 98.
Zach Canterbury (Tontogany, Ohio/Otsego) and Will Garlock (Lima, Ohio/Lima Central Catholic) each sported season-best rounds on the weekend. Canterbury carded a 101 during Friday's 18 to best his previous PR of 103, while Garlock shaved six strokes off his best round with a 108 second round on Saturday. That tandem also bested their previous 36-hole marks with Canterbury's 206, previously 228, and Garlock's 237, better than a prior 243.
Payton Switzer (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) rounded out the team scoring with 231 for the tournament after rounds of 112 and 119.
Mark Jordan played in his program debut on Friday and shot a round of 147. Spencer Temple also entered as an individual for his first competition and compiled a 264 36-hole total for the weekend on rounds of 116 and 148.
The Yellow Jackets finished 10th of 10 teams, which was led by Denison University's 608 to win the tournament by one stroke over Ohio Northern. The Polar Bears did secure the individual championship with Anthony Naso turning in cards of 70 and 72 for a total of 142 and beat Toledo's Mason Deal by three strokes.
The Yellow Jackets return to the links on Monday for the D-III Showcase in French Lick, Ind. with 72 holes in two days before a two-week break from competition.
