Defiance Men's Golf Posts Seventh-Place Finish
BATTLE CREEK, MICH. -- The Defiance College men's golf team opened the 2017-18 season with a seventh-place finish at the Lou Collins Memorial Invitational, which was hosted by Olivet (Mich.) College at Bedford Valley Country Club.

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior Alex Miday (Canton/St Thomas), who finished the tournament in a seventh-place tie. Miday opened the tournament with a one-under par 71 on Friday and followed that up by shooting a 74 on Saturday for a two-day total of 145.
Miday was followed junior Stephan Dolan (Painesville Twp.), who shot an even-par 72 on Saturday following his 77 on Saturday, as he finished the tournament in a tie for 24th place.
Freshman Daniel Acosta (Torreon, Mexico/Gary Gilchrest Academy) followed Dolan with a 36-hole score of 156, while senior Adam McGinnis (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) shot a 165 in his two days of competition. Hayden Clingaman (Stryker) rounds out the field for the Yellow Jackets, as he finished the tournament shooting a total of 170 strokes.
Defiance finished the 36-hole tournament by shooting a team-score of 619 strokes, good enough to finish in the top half of the 16-team field.
The meet was won by the University of Northwestern Ohio, who shot a team total of 575. They defeated Hope (Mich.) College by nine strokes, while Madonna (Mich.) University placed third, shooting a 601.
The men's golfers will continue action on Tuesday, Sept. 12, as they are set to host the Jon P. Spiess Invitational at Ironwood Golf Course in Wauseon.
