Miday Takes Medalist Honors at DC Spring Invite
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's golf team turned in an impressive effort on day two of the Defiance Spring Invitational that was capped by junior Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) finishing the top individual and the team improving from its sixth-place standing yesterday to place third overall.

The Yellow Jackets improved upon their first-round score by 17 strokes on the final day and finished just one stroke shy of eventual tournament champion Ohio Northern University in round two. Defiance ended the two-day affair with a total of 607 strokes (312+295=607) and climbed three spots after the first 18 holes to place third out of 13 teams.
ONU carded a team-total of 595 strokes (301+294=595) to win the event and was followed by Mount St. Joseph University, who led the tournament after the first round, in second place with 605 strokes (299+306=605).
Miday shot an impressive one-under par in the final round (69) and completed the event with a total of 141 strokes (72+69=141) to finish with the lowest total of the tournament to claim medalist honors. Senior Jake Tinsley (Eaton) also played an impressive tournament finishing with rounds of 74 and 73 strokes to place third overall with a total of 147 strokes.
All of the remaining team-eligible scores for the Jackets were in the 70's on the final day, including senior Zach Weber (Ottoville) who improved his opening round score of 81 strokes with 76 strokes on day two and ended the tournament with 157 strokes. Fellow senior Derek Lucas (Eaton) also improved his second round score with a 79 and posted a two-day total of 164 strokes (85+79=164).
Junior Adam McGinnis (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) saw the biggest improvement individually from the first round and bettered his final 18-holes by 10 strokes (77) to tie Lucas with an overall score of 164 strokes (87+77=164).
Competing for Defiance as an individual was sophomore Drake Moening (Defiance) who also ended the tournament with 164 total strokes after carding back-to-back rounds of 82 strokes.
Defiance will next set its sights on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship that begins next weekend (Apr. 29-30). The first two rounds will be hosted by Mount St. Joseph University at Miami-Whitewater Forest Golf Course in Cincinnati, Ohio.
