Miller and Miday Named DC Athletes of the Year
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Defiance College Athletic Department recently recognized two individuals for their athletic accomplishments as the Duane Hocking Female and the Marv Hollenberger Male Athletes of the Year. For their outstanding seasons in 2015-16, this year’s recipients were Eme Miller and Alex Miday.
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Defiance College Athletic Department recently recognized two individuals for their athletic accomplishments as the Duane Hocking Female and the Marv Hollenberger Male Athletes of the Year. For their outstanding seasons in 2015-16, this year's recipients were Eme Miller and Alex Miday.
Eme Miller (Portland, Ind./Jay County), who graduated last spring, completed her collegiate career as a member of the cross country and track & field teams with another record setting year. In cross country, she earned All-Conference honors for the third straight season as well as garnering All-Region accolades for the second time in her career. Eme was the HCAC runner of the week on two occasions as the team's top runner who's best overall finish was second place during the season and averaged a finish of sixth place. Eme also broke her own school record in the 5k at the Wilmington Jenna Strong Fall Classic. In track, Eme earned All-Conference honors for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. During the outdoor season, she was named the HCAC Co-MVP after winning the steeplechase in a school and conference-record time, and the 5,000 meter run. She also garnered All-Region accolades en route to setting eight school records during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) capped an outstanding 2015-16 golf season as the HCAC Most Valuable Player after finishing the conference championships as the individual medalist with the lowest overall score amongst all individual competitors. He also went on to earn All-HCAC honors. Alex played in all 10 tournaments last year during the fall and spring seasons. He averaged 73.8 strokes during the fall with a low-round of 71 and 76.6 strokes during the spring with a low-round of 68. Alex also captured one other medalist honor last year at the Anderson University Fall Invitational Champion in the season's first event.
