Golf Finishes Fourth; Miday Earns MVP at HCAC Championship
WABASH, IND. -- Sophomore Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) finished as the individual champion and earned Most Valuable Player honors after the final round of the 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships at Honeywell Golf Course in Wabash, Ind.
WABASH, IND. -- Sophomore Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) finished as the individual champion and earned Most Valuable Player honors after the final round of the 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships at Honeywell Golf Course in Wabash, Ind.
As a team, the Yellow Jackets finished with a four-round total of 1,273 strokes (295+307+325+310=1237) to place fourth overall of eight teams. Transylvania (Ky.) University finished with a team-total of 1,210 strokes (297+300+306+307=1210) to capture the team championship. Mount St. Joseph University was second at 1,221 strokes (302+299+320+300=1221) and Hanover (Ind.) College rounded out the top-three with 1,228 strokes (302+297+323+306=1228).
Miday shot four rounds in the 70s and finished with a tournament-total of 295 strokes (68+72+77+78=295) to finish a stroke ahead of second place and take individual medalist honors and earn Tournament MVP accolades. Defiance also had another individual finish in the top-five in junior Jake Tinsley (Eaton) who placed in a tie for fourth overall with a total of 301 strokes (73+72+79+77=301).
Sophomore Tyson Bostelman (Archbold) was third on the team and finished 23rd overall with 321 strokes (76+80+91+74=321). Sophomore Adam McGinnis (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) finished just behind Bostelman in 24th place at 322 strokes (78+83+80+81=322).
Junior Derek Lucas (Eaton) also competed in the final two rounds of the tournament and shot rounds of 89 and 82 strokes to finish with a total of 171 strokes, but did not qualify in the final individual standings since he did not compete in the first two rounds last weekend.
In addition to earning MVP honors, Miday was also one of two Yellow Jackets to garner All-HCAC accolades. Tinsley joined Miday as an all-conference honoree. In addition, Tinsley was also selected to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
