Yellow Jackets Finish Sixth at Hanover Invitational

SEYMOUR, IND. -- The Defiance College men's golf team placed sixth overall at the Hanover (Ind.) College Spring Invitational at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour, Ind.
Defiance improved by four strokes on the second day as a team and finished the overall tournament with a total of 648 strokes (326+322=648) to place sixth out of 10 teams. Northwestern Ohio University won the event with 599 strokes (300+299=599). Davenport (Mich.) University finished second at 617 strokes (309+308=617) and Mount St. Joseph University placed third with 621 strokes (313+308=621).
Sophomore Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) led the Yellow Jackets individually with a two-day total of 159 strokes (79+80=159) and placed 17th overall. Junior Derek Lucas (Eaton) was second with 163 strokes (81+82=163) and sophomore Tyson Bostelman (Archbold) improved by eight strokes on the final day to shoot an overall score of 164 strokes (86+78=164). Junior Zach Weber (Ottoville) finished in the top-four on the team with 167 strokes (80+87=167) and junior Jake Tinsley (Eaton) rounded out the top five at 169 strokes (87+82=169).
In addition, DC had three players compete as individuals in freshman Beau Barkley (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Churubusco), sophomore Adam McGinnis (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) and freshman Drake Moening (Defiance). Barkley carded rounds of 89 and 86 strokes to end the tournament with a total of 175 strokes. McGinnis shot a pair of 90's to finish with 180 strokes and Moening posted rounds of 90 and 92 for an overall total of 182 strokes.
Defiance is scheduled to compete in the Manchester (Ind.) University Invitational next Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 16-17 in North Manchester, Ind.
