Miday Leads Yellow Jackets at MSJ Spring Invite
NORTH BEND, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's golf team competed at the two-day Mount St. Joseph Spring Invitational over the weekend and placed sixth overall at the Aston Oaks Golf Course in North Bend.
NORTH BEND, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's golf team competed at the two-day Mount St. Joseph Spring Invitational over the weekend and placed sixth overall at the Aston Oaks Golf Course in North Bend.
The Yellow Jackets concluded the two-day event with a team score of 659 strokes (329+330=659) to finish in sixth place out of 10 schools. Otterbein University captured the team title with 627 strokes (308+319=627). Host school Mount St. Joseph was second at 630 strokes (313+317=630) and Thomas (Ky.) More College rounded out the top-three with 641 strokes (318+323=641).
Sophomore Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) finished as the "low man" for the Yellow Jackets with tournament-total 157 strokes (77+80=157) and finished eighth overall individually. Junior Jake Tinsley (Eaton) came in second on the team with rounds of 81 and 80 strokes to post an overall total of 161 strokes. Fellow junior Derek Lucas (Eaton) had the third lowest total of 170 strokes (83+87=170) and sophomore Tyson Bostelman (Archbold) carded an event-total of 171 strokes (89+82=171). Junior Zach Weber (Ottoville) came in fifth with a two-day total of 182 strokes (95+87=182).
Defiance had three players compete as individuals in sophomore Adam McGinnis (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) and freshmen Drake Moening (Defiance) and Beau Barkley (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Churubusco). Of the three, McGinnis posted the lowest stroke total with 180 after shooting rounds of 91 and 89 strokes. Moening and Barkley both ended the tournament with 186 stroke totals with Moening recording rounds of 99 and 87 strokes, while Barkley shot scores of 90 and 96 strokes.
DC will next compete in the annual Defiance Spring Invitational which it will host on Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 2-3 at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance. The first round on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
