DC In Sixth Place After Opening Rounds of HCAC Championship
LEXINGTON, KY. -- The Defiance College men's golf team finished in sixth place following the first two rounds of the 2015 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Transylvania (Ky.) University at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
LEXINGTON, KY. -- The Defiance College men's golf team finished in sixth place following the first two rounds of the 2015 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Transylvania (Ky.) University at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
Defiance improved by 16 strokes on the final day and ended the two-day event with an overall team score of 642 strokes (329+313=642) to stand in sixth place of eight teams. Host school Transylvania sits in first place in the HCAC Title standings with a score of 586 strokes (294+292=586) and was followed by Franklin (Ind.) College in second with 621 strokes (311+310=621). Hanover (Ind.) College was third with 622 strokes (310+312=622).
Sophomore Zach Weber (Ottoville) led Defiance with an opening round of 77 strokes and then shot a 75 on the final day to post an overall score of 152 strokes and finish tied for seventh overall. Freshman Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) improved by six strokes in the final round and ended the tournament with a two-day total 158 strokes (82+76=158). Sophomore Jake Tinsley (Eaton) had the third lowest score for the team with a pair of 82's for a tournament-total 164 strokes. Freshman Tyson Bostelman rounded out the team-qualifying scores at 168 strokes (88+80=168).
DC will conclude the HCAC Championships and the 2014-15 season next weekend, Saturday-Sunday (May 2-3), with the final two-day event hosted by Anderson (Ind.) University. The third and fourth rounds making of the conference championships will be played at Hylands Golf Course in Knightstown, Ind. The round on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
