Miday Places Second to Lead Jackets at DC Invitational
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Freshman Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) shot a combined score of 149 strokes to place in a tie for second overall to lead the Defiance College men's golf team at the Defiance Spring Invitational held at Eagle Rock Golf Club.
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Freshman Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) shot a combined score of 149 strokes to place in a tie for second overall to lead the Defiance College men's golf team at the Defiance Spring Invitational held at Eagle Rock Golf Club.
The Yellow Jackets began the two-day tournament with a team score of 307 strokes and followed that with a final round 332 strokes to end the event with an overall total of 639 strokes to place fourth of five teams. Ohio Northern University captured the team title with 594 total strokes (296+298=594). Hanover (Ind.) College was second at 611 strokes (300+311=611) and Tiffin University rounded out the top-three with 624 strokes (305+319=624).
Miday shot an opening round 70 and then posted a second round in the 70s on Sunday with a 79 for an overall score of 149. Sophomore Zach Weber (Ottoville) was second for the Yellow Jackets with a two-day total 159 strokes (82+77=159). Fellow sophomore Jake Tinsely (Eaton) had the third lowest total at 161 strokes (78+83=161) and freshman Tyson Bostelman (Archbold) rounded out the scoring with a tournament-total 170 strokes (77+93=170).
In addition, freshman Adam McGinnis (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) and senior Rick Girona (McClure/Ostego) completed their rounds as indviduals and turned in scores of 167 and 176 strokes respectively. McGinnis shot rounds of 84 and 83, while Girona posted scores of 83 and 93 strokes.
Defiance will next compete in the first of two events making up the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships next Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 25-26. The Yellow Jackets will travel to Lexington, Ky. for the event hosted by Transylvania (Ky.) University. Both rounds will be played at the University Club of Kentucky.
