Men's Golf Finishes Fourth at Dick Park Invitational
FRANKLIN, IND. -- The Defiance College men's golf team placed fourth behind sophomore Jacob Tinsley's (Kettering/Eaton) two-day total 159 strokes at the Dick Park Invitational hosted by Franklin (Ind.) College in Franklin, Ind.
FRANKLIN, IND. -- The Defiance College men's golf team placed fourth behind sophomore Jacob Tinsley's (Kettering/Eaton) two-day total 159 strokes at the Dick Park Invitational hosted by Franklin (Ind.) College in Franklin, Ind.
The Yellow Jackets bettered their first-round total by a stroke on the final day and ended the event with an overall team score of 653 strokes (327+326=653) to place fourth of six teams. The College of Mount St. Joseph finished as team champion with a total of 628 strokes, followed by host school Franklin in second at 635 strokes and Wabash (Ind.) College was third with 642 strokes.
Tinsley finished as "low man" for DC on rounds of 79 and 80 to finish with 159 strokes overall and placed in a tie for ninth individually. Following Tinsley, was freshman Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) who carded rounds of 82 and 81 for a tournament-total 163 strokes. Fellow freshman Austin Alexander (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) and sophomore Zach Weber (Ottoville) tied for third on the team with 166 strokes. Alexander shot rounds of 81 and 85 strokes, while Weber finished with rounds of 85 and 81 strokes. Rounding out the scores for the Jackets was senior Hurst Talbott (Columbus/St. Charles Prep) with 171 strokes (87+84=171).
In addition, freshmen Ben Baumgartner (Holland/Springfield), Tyson Bostelman (Archbold) and senior Ryan Edelbrock (Delphos/Delphos St. John's) competed as individuals. Baumgartner posted a two-day total 173 strokes following rounds of 85 and 88 strokes. Bostelman shot rounds of 89 and 88 for 177 strokes and Edelbrock ended the tournament with 183 strokes (101+82=183).
Defiance is scheduled to host the Defiance Fall Invitaitonal on Sunday, Sept. 28 at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
