Miday Places in Tie for Second at Anderson (Ind.) Invite
ANDERSON, IND. -- Freshman Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) finished four over par and placed in a tie for second overall individually to lead the Defiance College men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Anderson (Ind.) University Fall Invitational at the Anderson Country Club.
ANDERSON, IND. -- Freshman Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) finished four over par and placed in a tie for second overall individually to lead the Defiance College men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Anderson (Ind.) University Fall Invitational at the Anderson Country Club.
The Yellow Jackets ended the two-day event with an overall team total of 615 strokes (307+308=615) to place fourth of seven teams. The College of Mount St. Joseph won the team title with an event-total 594 strokes (300+294=594). Hanover (Ind.) College was second at 596 strokes (297+299=596) and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology was third with 608 strokes (306+302=608).
The top three golfers for DC shot both rounds in the 70x led by Miday who shot a 73 in his first round yesterday and posted a 75 today to post an overall score of 148 strokes and place in a tie for second, just eight shots shy of the tournament medalist. Fellow freshman Austin Alexander (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) also finished in the top-25 overall at 19th place with a two-day score of 154 strokes (78+76=154). Sophomores Jake Tinsley (Kettering/Eaton) and Derek Lucas (Eaton) also posted top-25 efforts with Tinsley finishing two strokes behind Alexander at 156 strokes (79+77=156) and Lucas had an overall score of 157 strokes (77+80=157). Sophomore Zach Weber (Ottoville) posted rounds of 82 and 81 to round out the scoring rounds for the Jackets with 163 strokes.
In addition, seniors Rick Girona (McClure/Ostego), Ryan Edelbrock (Delphos/Delphos St. John's) and freshman Tyson Bostelman (Archbold) competed as individuals. Girona ended with a two-day total 165 strokes (81+84=165), while Edelbrock and Bostelman tallied scores of 166 (84+82=166) and 170 (81+89=170) strokes respectively.
The men's golf team will next compete in the Dick Park Invitational hosted by Franklin (Ind.) University next Sunday-Monday, Sept. 21-22. The first round on Sunday is set to begin at 11 a.m.
