Men's Golf Opens 2014 Fall Season at Transy Fall Invite
LEXINGTON, KY. -- The Defiance College men's golf team began its 2014 fall season with a 19th place finish at the Transylvania (Ky.) Fall Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
LEXINGTON, KY. -- The Defiance College men's golf team began its 2014 fall season with a 19th place finish at the Transylvania (Ky.) Fall Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
The Yellow Jackets finished with a two-day team score of 649 strokes (336+313=649) to place 19th of 24 teams. Wittenberg University captured the team title with 585 strokes (292+293=585). Centre (Ky.) College was second at 590 strokes (302+288=590) and Spalding (Ky.) University rounded out the top-three schools with 604 strokes (301+303=604).
Freshman Austin Alexander (Fortville, ind./Mt. Vernon) led the Jackets with a two-day total of 156 strokes (79+77=156) and plaed in a tie for 39th overall. Fellow freshman Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) followed closely behind in second with a two-day score of 158 strokes (81+77=158). Sophomore Jake Tinsley (Ketering/Eaton) improved his first round score by 15 strokes on Sunday and carded a 76 to end the event with an overall total of 167 strokes (91+76=167) to place third on the team. Sophomore Zach Weber (Ottoville) and freshman Tyson Bostelman (Archbold) rounded out the DC competitors with 171 strokes (88+83=171) and 175 strokes (88+87=175) respectively.
The men's golf team will host the single-day Jon P. Spiess Memorial Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at Ironwood Golf Club in Wauseon. The round is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
