Men's golf opens up 2013-14 season with Transy Invitational
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Defiance College men’s golf team wrapped up its season opening tournament this weekend at the Transylvania Invitational. The team shot a 679 to finish in 19th place.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Defiance College men's golf team wrapped up its season opening tournament this weekend at the Transylvania Invitational. The team shot a 679 to finish in 19th place.
Mike Ross paced the Yellow Jackets this week, shooting a two day total of 155. He shot tops for Defiance in both round. Ross shot under his average of 79.3 last year on both days, after a 78 on Saturday and 77 on Sunday. Ross finished tied for 41st in individual competition.
Freshman Derek Lucas made his debut for the Yellow Jackets, shooting a two round total of 171 including an 83 on Sunday. The Eaton, Ohio native finished second for Defiance and 103rd overall.
Shooting just six strokes behind Lucas, Ryan Edelbrock came in third for Defiance with a 177. That mark was good to tie for 112th in the individual standings.
Round out the five for the Yellow Jackets were Hurst Talbott, who finished tied for 114th, and Zach Weber, who finished in 116th place, with a 180 and 181 respectively.
Winning the Transylvania Fall Invitational were the conference rival Mount St. Joseph Lions. They shot a two day total of 588 edging out Rhodes College by three strokes. Transylvania tied for fourth in their home invitational shooting a two round total of 601. Freshman Chris Pavelic, from Ohio Wesleyan University took the top individual golfer award, shooting a very nice two day total of 143 and one under par. The mark was one stroke better than the second-place finishers, where three players tied with a score of 144.
Defiance College next hits the links when they host the Jon P. Spiess Memorial Tournament in Wauseon, Ohio September 10. Tee times kick off at 10:30 am.
